چکیده

We present X-ray and optical observations of CXOMP J213945.0-234657, a high redshift (z = 4.93) quasar discovered through the Chandra Multiwavelength Project (ChaMP). This object is the most distant X-ray selected quasar published, with an X-ray luminosity of LX = 5.9× 10 44 erg s (measured in the 0.3-2.5 keV band and corrected for Galactic absorption). CXOMP J213945.0-234657 is a g dropout object (> 26.2), with r = 22.87 and i = 21.36. The rest-frame X-ray to optical flux ratio is similar to quasars at lower redshifts and slightly X-ray bright relative to z > 4 optically-selected quasars observed with Chandra. The ChaMP is beginning to acquire significant numbers of high redshift quasars to investigate the unobscured X-ray luminosity function out to z ∼ 5. Subject headings: galaxies:active—galaxies:nuclei—quasars:general—quasars:individual (CXOMP J213945.0-234657)—X-rays

THE FIELD X-RAY AGN FRACTION TO z = 0.7 FROM THE CHANDRA MULTIWAVELENGTH PROJECT AND THE SLOAN DIGITAL SKY SURVEY

We employ the Chandra Multiwavelength Project (ChaMP) and the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) to study the fraction of X-ray-active galaxies in the field to z = 0.7. We utilize spectroscopic redshifts from SDSS and ChaMP, as well as photometric redshifts from several SDSS catalogs, to compile a parent sample of more than 100,000 SDSS galaxies and nearly 1,600 Chandra X-ray detections. X-ray surveys of the extragalactic universe are now able to detect significant numbers of AGN out to high redshift (z ∼ 5). We highlight some results from the Chandra Multiwavelength Project (ChaMP) to measure the X-ray luminosity function out to these early epochs. At z > 3, we show that the comoving space density of luminous (log L X > 44.5) AGN has a behavior similar to the optical QSO lumin...

The Champ Extended Stellar Survey (chess): Photometric and Spectroscopic Properties of Serendipitously Detected Stellar X-ray Sources

We present 348 X-ray emitting stars identified from correlating the Extended Chandra Multiwavelength Project (ChaMP), a wide-area serendipitous survey based on archival X-ray images, with the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS). We use morphological star/galaxy separation, matching to an SDSS quasar catalog, an optical color-magnitude cut, and X-ray data quality tests to create our catalog, the Cha...

Probing the Balance of Agn and Star-forming Activity in the Local Universe with Champ

The combination of the SDSS and the Chandra Multiwavelength Project (ChaMP) currently offers the largest and most homogeneously selected sample of nearby galaxies for investigating the relation between X-ray nuclear emission, nebular line-emission, black hole masses, and properties of the associated stellar populations. We provide X-ray spectral fits and valid uncertainties for all the galaxies...

M ar 2 00 4 Discovery of a Jet - Like Structure at the High Redshift QSO

The Chandra Multiwavelength Project (ChaMP) has discovered a jet-like structure associated with a newly recognized QSO at redshift z=1.866. The system was 9.4 ′ off-axis during an observation of 3C 207. Although significantly distorted by the mirror PSF, we use both a raytrace and a nearby bright point source to show that the X-ray image must arise from some combination of point and extended so...
